At this rate it'll only be 4.5 months before we hit 3 mil not bad for a forum that's not even 3 years old.

That's accumulative. We now get an avarage of 7 - 8k posts a day.

Truth be told I have absolutely no idea how we ended up growing so fast.

1. Have a well thought out forum structure (no duplicating or ambiguous forum subjects). A quick glance and even a forum novice should know what threads go in which forums.
2. Don't pretend to be anything else other than a forum (assuming your forum isn't an addon to your already successful primary website). It's very easy to forget why members use your site. Be a great community rather then an ok forum & other random stuff you've added but very few are interested in.
3. Have a good moderating team. Getting members to gel is half the battle when starting out. Good moderators not only know how to move/delete posts but know what will get people chatting.
4. Put in the time & don't give up!

I used to get over 1000 but now I am getting about 500 per day, while threads are still the same, members seem to be posting less. This is one area that I am getting concerned with on my site and I will need to evaluate how my site is structured to get the most from the members again.

Wow, you have a good memory, totally forgot about this thread.

Today the forum has 13.1 million posts, although it's not my forum anymore :( A few months ago we sold an online media company based in LA. My partner still works for the company and I've gone on to other projects I didn't say anything on here as we were still very early in the handover and needed to keep within the contract.

Good news is I've already started setting up a new forum in a new subject... so get to find out it it was a fluke or a calling
