I have had VBSEO on my site for over a month (close to two) now and I have not really seen much of a difference in traffic or anything.
Any advice?

Content, content, content. Get busy in there and start posting to some of those forums with only one thread.

Hi Peter,
Since you are "random chatter" you are having trouble getting any niche traffic. If you are the site about everything, then Google may consider you the site about nothing in particular!
However, there may be some solutions for you. For one, why not try adding some more detailed/creative random chatter sub-forums. Instead of the really generic sub-forums like "Movies" or "Music", can you differentiate more?
You can also work with your sub-forum descriptions.
Instead of something like "Movie talk", why not:
I wrote that up quick. It does seem a bit random, and fortunately for you... random works great with your site.Venice to Golden Globes to Oscar Immortality... or straight to DVD! Get (or give) the low down on anything from SlumDog Millionaire to the marvel that is Mickey Rourke playing a broken down piece of meat in Aronofsky's "The Wrestler". Will Heath Ledger hit Joker super stardom only after his death? Are you sick of Kate Winslet's love of Leonardo Dicaprio? Is Clint Eastwood too old to beat anyone up in Gran Torino? All movies. All random. All here.
But the key thing is that I got a lot of different keywords in there that will give you some coverage for those terms, and also (hopefully) help give people ideas about what individual content to write. You'll notice that I used a lot of current movie buzz stuff, but the good part is that you can change these descriptions over time as you desire to keep them relevant, and get coverage on new keywords.
"Movie talk" is not very interesting, but if you hit a nerve with a random user who just so happens to love Mickey Rourke, or hate old man Eastwood, you just might get them in there and talking/posting.
Do that with all of your forums. Here is a keyword strategy you should check out:
Strategy for Optimizing Keywords in Your vBulletin Forum Title and Descriptions
Some other tips for you would be:
- Make your top 5 stats available only for registered users (not guests)
- Convert your welcome message into an image to keep the generic text from contributing to the page ranking
- Work on customizing your template & consider a professionally designed logo so that users arriving at your site feel like they've found a quality destination to stay and participate at.
- You should start using our relevant replacements, particularly to get them above your quick registration box.
- You should replace your showpost link with permalink (option under Permalinks section of the vBSEO Control Panel).
- You should remove your forum title from the "page title" (i.e. within the TITLE tag) of every thread page on your forum (i.e. better long tail optimization).
- You should be wrapping up your onpage titles in H1 tags for better optimization.
The bad news is that you do have a little work to do. The great news is that you may end up seeing some really positive results!![]()
