    Complete Site Revamp - CSS Menu, js onclick events, duplicate content..

    Hi All

    Please see ScoobyNet - Subaru Impreza Portal and Community

    Main things I'd love some expert comments on are :

    1) The css menu at the top : can the search engines read the links? If not, is it ok to show the bots different content by breaking the links out into a static table, or should I make a solution which is valid for all guests?

    2) the 5 blobs down the left hand side use js onclick events. Can the SEs see these links? Ideally I need to use the image background and then some text on top in these slots. If not, any suggestions as to better ways to do this for SEO?

    3) ScoobyNet - Subaru Impreza Portal and Community points to the same place as www. :

    The reasons:
    - The forum used to be bbs and the site home page (single static page) used to be www.
    - We have much better page rank on bbs.
    - We wanted users who had bookmarked the forum homepage to see the portal regularly so they get to see all the new content going up regularly.

    Does this duplicate content hurt us from an SEO point of view?

    4) Anything else

    Thanks a LOT in advance for any suggestions, etc.

    Simon

    1) take a look at this spider simulator: Search Engine Spider Simulator

    You'd be better off putting that actual header code somewhere else in the page. I actually put some of my header css in the footer, than used a div and some css attributes to make it appear up top:
    Code:
    #topregister {
        position: absolute;
        top: 0px;
    }
    This way a spider doesn't actually see that text till the end of the page.

    4) 468x60 adsense banners don't do well next to the adsense txt links. I would just take that out as things seem too cluttered up top.

    Good choice with the medium banner after the first post. I have done something very similar, but I like the way yours looks. It flows a lot better. Can you PM me the code you used in your postbit to do that?
