Will the sitemap stop google indexing other pages

I have my forum installed in a /forums directory and I've noticed that my homepage is not visited by the bots and hasn't been crawled since september.
I'm running the sitemap tool and that appears fine, I was just wondering if not having pages in the sitemap would mean they are not googled?

Also, bot activity doesn't appear to update in the vbseo cp. Any ideas?

Make sure that SE bots logging is enabled in vbseocp and vbseo_sitemap/data/ + vbseo_sitemap/data/hits/ folders have permissions 0777.
