Will the sitemap cause problems for the rest of my site?

I tried adding my other pages to the sitemap, but google gives back errros because they are on on the same level of the domain.

That said, do I need to worry about my other pages getting crawled regularly by google or other search engines once I have a sitemap installed just for my forums?

It is certainly a good idea to include other pages of your site into sitemap, but if you have this entries added, the sitemap files should reside in the topmost folder of your site (i.e., in yourdomain.com/sitemap_1.xml.gz and NOT yourdomain.com/forum/sitemap_1.xml.gz), otherwise the "level of the domain" problem occurs.

It works, but it is set up in my forums, not my entire site. Not sure how to go about changing that, and the rest of my site is regular .html pages, if that matters.

Will this sitemap work with .html pages?

If so, I can just move the sitemap files from my forum root, to my public.html root, correct?

just answered that second question for myself.

moving the folder was a BIG mistake.
