What happens if I uninstall vBSEO?

I installed vBSEO on my site at the beginning of February. Before installing it, I never had issues with my forums. It seems like in the last two months I've had to chase my tail around at least 5 or 6 times trying to troubleshoot various issues (like clicking on a forum thread and reaching an error page). I've even had problems on other sites that reside in the same public_html directory on my server as my forum with vBSEO. Now, if I had seen a huge increase in traffic or google hits over the last two months, I would say the trouble was worth it (after all, I've always been able to resolve the problem in the end), but I can't say that I have...I don't want to sit here and bash vBSEO, because I am sure that 95% of the problem is my own lack of expertise. Nevertheless, I'm getting kind of tired and distrustful of vBSEO.

So, this leads me to three questions:

    1. What happens if I uninstall it after running it for two months?

    2. Is there any kind of maintenance I need to do before or after uninstalling to ensure I do not have any short term or long term issues on my forum?

    3. Can I sell my vBSEO license to someone else?

    Thanks,
    Russell

    1) you lose all your indexed pages
    2) just delete the vbseo files from the ftp, and uninstall the product, and remove the htaccess file
    3) yes, but not here. try on digitalpoint, etc.

thanks so much for the quick reply! One clarification: is there no need for an htaccess file after vBSEO is uninstalled? It seems to me that I had one before it was installed, but I could be mistaken...

Also, can you help me understand exactly what "lose all your indexed pages" means? Will all the links in my forum still work (i.e. links to threads, forums, gallery, downloads, etc)? What will happen if someone follows a link that a search engine has already indexed that was changed by vBSEO?

It shouldn't really, vBSEO should execute reliably (and transparently) without you even noticing it's doing it's job.

Where exactly do these sites reside? I would think there's only one public_html directory associated to dfwd20.com, or not?

You might want to open a support ticket with a detailed description of any issue you may be encountering to have a tech take a look asap.

i didn't catch that first time around either.

i can't imagine why or how there could be more than one domain running off the same public_html folder.

    Sounds like server configuration issues.

My vbulletin forum is in the root of my public_html directory. Also in the public_html directory is a folder that contains the files for my other website, a blog (unrelated to my forum). I have an addon domain that points to the folder the blog is installed on. To get my blog site to work, I had to put an htaccess file in the blog site folder that had a "RewriteEngine Off" command in it.

Yes, that should work to disable rewrite directives defined in the upper folders.

IIS is web server software on Windows machines. If you're on Linux, then you are not running IIS. If you are on a Windows server, you might have IIS.

hehehe. well seriously, vbseo is a myth. I've been using vbSeo for about 4 years now. They are doing OK on the SEO part, but they eat a lot of server resources.

vbSeo and vBulletin 4.x = perfect couple
