Hi Ace/Joe,

Hope you had a great weekend?

1) Any thoughts on that issue with sitemap_index?
2) Since Friday my sitemap has become unverified? I've tried to re-verify myself however I'm getting this message:

We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 (Success) in the header.

The only thing I have done is purchase 'Domain Protection' from Godaddy....and I did that on Sunday! I really have not done anything else that will have affected it.

Callum is sad again :P

Make sure that you have the domain name specified in lowercase in vB admincp options.

You should have "File not found handler" to set to "Send 404 code" in vBSEO CP.

1. Fixed - thanks!! ...i'm 95% sure it had uppercase letters in it when I first got it approved, so that is odd?

2. Not so fixed

I set the File not found handler to to "Send 404 code", and I received a different error message this time:

General HTTP error: HTTP 403 error (Forbidden)
We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.

Okay ignore that, it doesn't work either...

If I provide my login details can someone have a look?

Hi all hope you're well,

Can someone have a look at it for me?

Also, the sitemap that is working now says the below. How do I change the URL's? (if I simply go into the sitemap file will it not just be overwritten when it gets regenerated?)

URLs not followed
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot because they contained too many redirects. Please change the URLs in your Sitemap that redirect and replace them with the destination URL (the redirect target). All valid URLs will still be submitted.

Looks like you have "Include old URLs" option enabled. You should disable it, remove all sitemap files and regenerate sitemap.

Both files work!! hallelujah!!!

that said, there really isn't a lot of information in sitemap_index.xml.gz

Also....what is this file - should I submit it?
urllist.txt.gz

Many thanks

Callum

It used to be sent to Yahoo earlier, but now they support xml sitemaps as well, so usually you don't need it.

Hi Guys,

I'm following this thread and just want to double-check something..don't mean to hijack the discussion.. When I go to my webmaster tools and I add my sitemaps..do I add just sitemap_index.xml.gz, or do I add that along with sitemap_1.xml.gz? THe way I understood this, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that the sitemap index was just that..an index which points to all the required other .xml files that google is supposed to sitemap

Hi Sovaward - you add both and yes you are correct in understanding that.

Hi everyone
1) - Google webmaster still says:
Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Jul 7, 2008
- Do do you know how I can fix this?

2) - Both files were working properly until a day ago (they had been fine for 2 weeks), but I noticed earlier today that sitemap_index.xml.gz is now showing errors. I deleted and resubmitted it, and now both sitemap_index.xml.gz and sitemap_1.xml.gz are showing errors!
Is this normal? I just want them to keep working without having errors!!

I had a look at the files to see why they are not working. sitemap_1.xml.gz is only 7.7kb and has no urls in it. I tried regenerating but this didn't fix it.

Would upgrading to the new vbSEO / Sitemap help?

Best Regards

Callum
