    I observed that my site map, when opened in a web browser, is not formatted in a tree structure like I see it in other websites. Is this normal:

    Code:
    http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/sitemap_1.xml.gz
    Could this be the issue, or this shouldn't matter?
    It doesn't really matter as long as all the XML is there in the Source Code, if you view source you will see it is 2010-02-15_1544

    What is the error that Google is reporting (Hover over the 'X')

    Ceri, when I hover over the red 'X', it just reads 'Errors'. That's not helpful. :(

    Hey,

    Sorry if you actually click into the sitemap within webmasters tools you should get a screen like this

    Which details the errors.

    The index file shows that there is an error, but it doesn't say anything specific about the type or error.

    sitemap-report3.gif

    However, beside the sitemap_index.xml.gz, I also have sitemap_1.xml.gz submitted in Google Webmaster Tools. The sitemap_1.xml.gz doesn't show an error

    Could the issue be that I have both files submitted? Should I only keep the Index file?

    In the Google Webmaster Tools I deleted, and then resubmitted my site map, and now it is showing me the green chack-mark, instead of the red 'X'. I hope it will stay like this. I still wonder what went wrong, but it seems there was no problem with my installation.

    Thanks for your help. If the problem returns, I will post a reply here.

    If google is having trouble pinging your site or downloading your file, it will report this error. This is a connection error, not a physical file contents error.

    Many people have reported this in the past few days. it seems like google is having some issues with their sitemaps internally.

    This has been annoying me as I cant figure it out.

    I have vb4 and installed 2.6 generator. My forum is in /forum folder of my site.

    I go to http://www.247gamers.net/sitemap_index.xml.gz and nothing is there, but then I go to http://www.247gamers.net/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz and something is there but it has no sitemap files etc? I have manually ran the scheduled task too.

    The sitemap files are here like they should be 247gamers.net/forum/vbseo_sitemap/data/

    I just need to know what to tell google and yahoo really. I think the rest is then automated?

    I think its kinda working but is something meant to actually prompt to download when you go to http://www.247gamers.net/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz ?

    All I get is a page of this:

    This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

    <sitemapindex xsi:schemaLocation=" Index of /schemas/sitemap/0.9 http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/09/siteindex.xsd">

    <sitemap>
    <loc>http://www.247gamers.net/forum/sitemap_1.xml.gz</loc>
    <lastmod>2010-02-16T17:33:54+00:00</lastmod>
    </sitemap>
    </sitemapindex>

    That is correct. You should submit that to your Google Webmaster Tools.

    What can you do to fix the error...

    Your Sitemap exceeds the maximum file size limit. Please create multiple Sitemaps containing fewer URLs to meet the file size limit.
    I've got the latest VB and the Latest VBSEO and I've even set my max URL to 4000 but still getting the error mostly on my first sitemap that is built.

    Follow these steps :
    1. vBSEO Sitemap generator settings > Max URLs in Sitemap Files > 20000
    2. "Manually" Remove all .gz files located on "vbseo_sitemap/data/".
    3. "Manually" Regenerate your sitemap from vbseo sitemap reports.
    4. Resubmit your sitemap.

    Are you still getting the same error now after these steps ?

    Can't understand why it still says 50000 when it's set to the 20000 as suggested?
