    vbseo_sitemap/data/.htaccess

Iv'e had to reinstall this entire forum and vbseo.

Maybe i should have searched a while longer on this , but the htaccess file where the sitemaps are located is set to deny all, I would like google to access all these sitemaps, or am i way off in allowing google in there ?

    thanks, rick

EDIT: I see the sitemaps are all being submitted differently, so this question is null......

Rick, are you using the google webmaster tools? If not, it will help you greatly.

It's a great resource. In there you can see how your sitemaps are doing and if they are being submitted. Go through everything in there and see how it can help you.

Thanks for the advice stanger, I've been spending more time with it all as of late, I'm sure I'll get more fluent as time goes.

This is set to deny all for a reason so that direct invocation is NOT allowed.

The htaccess in your forum root directs

    sitemap_xxxxx_N.xml.gz to vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1

in that php script, it then loads the sitemap from the /data/ folder. Therefore, direct access is not needed, and the deny from all keeps any rogue code that may be uploaded there (as it is a writable folder) from being able to run directly.

You should continue to simply submit site.com/forumpath/sitemap_index.xml.gz and let the script do the rest.

This makes perfect sense obviously , now that I follow the paths. As before , I just installed vbseo , and rode in the backseat as far as understanding. So when I started getting into it a bit more, it peaked my curiosity when the submitted sitemap was not named " vbseo_xxxxxx.xml " .

I'm sure I'll have more personal revelations as I delve deeper into the enigma and ever changing forrest of how vbseo handles everything.

    thabnks, rick
