Vbseo Control Panel

two questions regarding Control Panel:

1. there is a message on the top of the Vbseo Control Panel page, what does this mean ?
"Your config.xml is writable. Don't forget to update permissions after you finish updating the configuration for security purposes."

2. I am little confused when I read the installation instruction,

1. CHMOD 666 the 'vB-root/vbseo/resources/xml/config.xml' file.

F. Configure vBSEO:

4. For security purposes CHMOD 644 your 'vB-root/vbseo/resources/xml/config.xml' file after configuring vBSEO.

what' the CHMOD ? what's the number 666, 644 ? I checked the properties of the config.xml, it is 0644, how to set here ?

CHmod is done most easily with your ftp client. Most have a menu on right click for permissions or chmod. Just navigate the the config.xml file, right click on it, and you should have a permission or chmod menu there.

666 is writable (should only be in this state when you are in making changes for security)
644 is locked state (normal state when the site is done being configured)

Some systems (mostly php as a cgi) required 444 for the locked state.

It looks like 444 did it for me. I hope I remember to scroll back to the top every time I make a change in vBSEO. I have a horrible memory and I might make changes, save the settings, and leave the page!
