Sitemaps installed and run, what next?

Firstly sorry for this real newbie question

I have installed vBSEO and then sitemaps. I ran sitemaps and it did its stuff. Er, what do I do next? Do I need to tell Google? When I looked at the log just afterwards, it showed a Googlebot had accessed the sitemap just after I had. Does this mean I just sit back and wait for Google to do its thing? It can't be this easy, so I must be missing a critical step somewhere?
