    Sitemap location

    Hello,

    This is an urgent request.

So my forum is located http://www.zikihideout.com/forums/
so the sitemap is located in http://www.zikihideout.com/vbseo_sitemap/data/sitemap.txt.gz

I need the sitemap to be created in http://www.zikihideout.com/
because google doesn't allow me to add a sitemap for http://www.zikihideout.com/forums/

    How to get past that?

The .htaccess file makes your sitemap files appear to be in your forum root.

You can put the same rewrite rule in your root .htaccess file, and change the sitemap path defined in your AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> vBSEO Sitemap options to point to your root URL.

Well, first, if you are only going to be submitting URLs from your /forums directory or lower, you don't have to do any of this. You only need to set up your sitemap in your site root if you plan to include other URLs that are higher than /forums.

Google will let you submit from your forums directory.

No I don't think you understand. The sitemap is being generated in http://www.zikihideout.com/forums/vbseo_sitemap/data/

but I need it to be generated in http://www.zikihideout.com/

so it keeps it up to date

That is the location that vBSEO sitemap creates the files, and that does not need to change. Again, .htaccess rules are what make the sitemaps "appear" to be in another location.

If you have vBSEO running, then the .htaccess rules for the sitemap are already included. So you can submit this URL as to Google:

    http://www.zikihideout.com/forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz

That's all you need to do. If you click that link you'll see that it works, and that it is an index of any/all sitemap files that were created on your site.

So I just edit the .htaccess in my forum root so it appears as it is in http://www.zikihideout.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz?

No, you don't need to edit anything. It's ready to do. Submit the link I gave above to Google's Webmaster tools, and you're done.

Do you have a need to submit the sitemap from your site root? If so, take the .htaccess that comes with vBSEO Sitemap (not vBSEO) and put THAT in your site root.

Then, go to AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> vBSEO Sitemap Options. For "Sitemap Files URL", put: Ziki's Hideout~The Hideout From Reality~vBulletin Modifications and Hacks - vBulletin Modifications and Hacks

Then, you would submit to Google using this URL: http://www.zikihideout.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz

Also, you need to download and install vBSEO Sitemap 1.7RC4 from the downloads area here. 1.5 isn't going to work for you with your version of vBulletin and your version of vBSEO.
