Question Sitemap Genrator 3 Related Questions

    Hello all!

I've just installed the latest sitemap generator (3) by following these steps -

    1. Uploaded all the contents of the 'upload' folder to forum root, overwriting the older files.
    2. Imported the product (with overwrite) option through admin cp.
    3. Logged on to the new sitemap generator and ran the sitemap generator.

    Everything went fine. No errors.

    Question:

    1. Am I required to manually submit the sitemaps to Google & Bing search engines through webmaster tools?

    2. I see four different files at: http://www.my-domain.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz :-
    http://www.my-domain.com/forum/sitemap_forum_1.xml.gz
    http://www.my-domain.com/forum/sitemap_forum_2.xml.gz
    http://www.my-domain.com/forum/sitemap_tags_1.xml.gz
    http://www.my-domain.com/forum/sitemap_cms_1.xml.gz

Clicking on the links points me to pages that list different URLs. Is this correct? Are there any further actions I'm supposed to take?

    3. I see that few of my forums have lower priority than they should. Shall I manually change the priority? Is it recommended? What should I keep in mind when changing the priority?

I'd advise to leave most settings as is. Just submit http://www.my-domain.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz to google etc this contains all thatr they need

    1) No, but it is recommended for all customers to track their index stats.
    2) submit sitemap_index.xml.gz. It will have a pointer to all the other files.
    3) you can change to any range you wish in the options. Using smart priority is usually the best option. Keep in mind, your 'forums' have little value to a search engine-- it's the CONTENT in the threads that rank
