    Sitemap is correct or not?

    Hi,

I had installed sitemap 2.6 previously and updated to 3.0. My sitemap url is http://www.penmai.com/forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz. Is this is correct or it should be in the root only.

If it should be in the root then how to change it.

What url should be given to following. I had left it empty is it correct or not.

    Sitemap Files URL
By default the vBSEO Sitemap files will be located in your forum root. Use this field to specify a different location, for example, your site root: http://www.yourdomain.com

NOTE: You must edit the .htaccess file of the folder in which you want to locate your sitemap files. More information here. Leave this setting empty to use default vB url.

    Hello,

You don't need to place your sitemaps on root, having them within your "forums/" folder it's Ok. So that your current set up is fine

'gone away' errors are 99% of the time related to a wait_timeout setting in my.cnf that is too short. try increase this setting and restarting the sql service.

thanks brian... so the wait_timeout setting should be increased by host and mysql service should be restarted by them.

    correct.

Or, you need to remove some sections from the sitemap so that it finishes quicker.

thanks brian, I followed the link you had given and changed the setting. I hav a small doubt, is vbseo 3.5.2 has Forum Permalinks. If it doesn't have forum permalinks.

Following these below lines is OK for vb4 with vbseo 3.5.2 and set Include Show Post Pages : NO

    • Login to your vBulletin Control Panel.
    • Find the vBSEO heading in your left column.
    • Click "vBSEO Sitemap Settings".
    • Scroll down to the option for "Include Showpost Pages".
    • Select "No" for that option.
    • Scroll down and click the "Save" button.

Now the vBSEO sitemap will no longer include your showpost pages in the sitemap. However, the current sitemap files still contain those showpost links, so they must be deleted and regenerated.

    • Connect to your forum via FTP.
    • Navigate to your sitemap data folder, stored within your forum root.
    • /vbseo_sitemap/data/
    • Delete all .gz ending files listed there (DO NOT delete the .htaccess file).
    • Login to your vBSEO Sitemap control panel: yoursite.com/forum/vbseo_sitemap/
    • Click "Run Sitemap Generator". Then confirm when the dialog box prompts you to continue.
