I am way out of line responding here as I know nothing,

But it seems that google first needs to lose your old links, then rebuild them, thus losing some now.

    Hello Robert ,

Your .htaccess content is outdated. Please use the .htaccess that comes with vBSEO 3.3.0 package.

You should not include showpost pages to your sitemaps.

    Several questions:

    1. Where am I supposed to upload the htaccess file itself?

    2. There are many other files in that htaccess folder, should I put them somewhere in the forums folder?

there's a couple provided due to some systems 'hiding' "dot" prefix files.

.htaccess and htaccess.txt are the same file, just a different format for visibility on the local system. if you use the txt version, you need to rename it to .htaccess to work.

the others are for non-apache webservers.

the htaccess file should be in your forum root, wherever "showthread.php" is.
