    server load is really high

    Hi, i installed vbseo yesterday.

Before that my server load average was around 0.5 or less.

but the last 12 hours it has been 1.90 2.09 3.9 or higher.

and when it does the cron job each night, its now hitting over 10+

Is something wrong with that? Because my forums are now really lagging.

I have just the other day requested a server optimiztion at vbulletin, and they have just got back to me.
Server Optimization please - vBulletin Community Forum

would someone from here please comment as well, as he said something about removing zend, and was not sure if that would mess up this.

and if anyone else could give me some ideas to enhance my forums the site is here Gamerz Needs - For All Your Gaming Needs! - Powered by vBulletin It is a hacked up board, but has been doing really well on the server until yesterday when i installed this.

    Thanks.

    Hello Matt,

have you applied the server optimization suggestions posted at vb.com?

It has been noticed that server load is settled down after a while when installing vBSEO.
    Sometimes it takes
As for cron task (I suppose it's vBSEO Sitemap Generator task?), it may be quite resource intensive for the bigger forum and you may consider to run it weekly instead of daily, and make sure to select the day time when your forums have the least number of visitors.

Also, you may want to install the latest pre-release vBSEO2.4.5 (you can request it via support ticket).

Hi Matt - I see that "Powered by vBulletin" is still in your templates. It is definitely a good idea to remove that:

    Thanks for that.

I have not applied the server tips yet, i will apply them all now and see how that goes. Then I will let you know how the server is after that. I may then change the cron job to a week.

    Thanks

In agreement, I would review all cron jobs in conjunction with your server logs....

Pick the least busy times to run needed tasks.

How Do I work out what is the least busiest time?

Because im running it at 3am which is 7pm my time (Australian EDT) but I've been on my forums practically 24 hours before and i never really notice a time when there are less people on.

do server logs have that info in them? if so which ones? (I'm new to the dedicated server)

I too had a high server load when I first started with VBseo, in fact it was so high I uninstalled it. However after tinkering with it I got it to work and am now very satisfied with VBseo.

    1. Do the server optimizations recommended by Vbulletin.org, but do not uninstall Zend since you need it for VBseo (unless you are running the Ioncube version)

    2. It appears that you do not have Eaccelerator installed. I highly recommend that you install it! It made a big difference for me and it works well with Zend. Not only did it bring the load down, my forum flies now. Eaccelerator caches your PHP scripts similiar to APC Cache, however APC won't work with Zend. I think that Eaccelerator is as good as APC and it is still being improved.

    3. Wait a couple of days after you do all of this and you will see you load go down, although it won't be as low as prior to VBseo, it will be manageable.

I have done the kernel update and my server load has already droped down heaps 0.91 1.08 1.08 but that is still not good, but my forum is not lagging much currently.

Thanks for the tip for Eaccelerator. I was about to do the APC as no one here said it was bad.

I will let everyone know how my server load is after doing the Eaccelerator and how everything settles down over the next week. Thanks

0.91 1.08 1.08 for server loads are good! You can live with that.

APC is not bad, however it is not compatible with Zend. Eaccelerator is compatible with Zend.

Also you need to upgrade Zend to the 3.0 version as it will be needed for VBseo 2.4.5.
