    Sorry for such a newbie question, but how do I turn these on? In my forum they are turned off..

    There is a "LinkBacks" section in the vBSEO Control Panel. You can turn them on there.

    I get a warning that my configuration is not writable....it won't allow me to save it.

    Now what can I do?

    As noted in the installation instructions, you need to change the permissions of your config_vbseo.php file that is located in your vBulletin includes directory. Set the permissions to 777 and you should be fine.
