The issue was related to custom php extension. If you are using a custom php extension such as php4 php5 you should define your php prefix both within config_vbseo.php and vbseo_sitemap_config.php file.

config_vbseo.php

PHP Code:

    define('VBSEO_VB_EXT',                 'php'); 


vbseo_sitemap_config.php

PHP Code:

       define('VBSEO_PHP_EXT', 'php');
