Is it necessary to keep all those log files in the sitemap data folder?
What are they for and how can I limit those if not needed?
Thanks!

These log files are all the sitemap stats.. download logs, bot activity, etc. You cna delete any you want, but you will lose that day(s) stats as well.
There is also an option in the sitemap config.php file to auto trim logs after X days.

I never look at those stats much.
Would there be any need of me looking at the stats over 30 days? Would that be a good cutoff time frame?
Thanks!
I personally save 13 months worth of data so i can trend month to month for a year.

Is there a tutorial on what to look for and what to do about what you find?
No.. it's just numbers. I look back and see 20k bot visits on average for april 2009 and compare against april 2010 bot hits.
