    Indexed tags

    Hello,

I have noticed that I have lots of tags indexed,

I am fairly sure that I have lots of tags indexed but I think that it would better to have more threads indexed by the thread title.

Do you agree with this? or I should not worry about the indexed tags?

    Thanks
    Ryan

So um who does think they still index taged pages and who thinks they wont?
as I have just added the Auto tag mod so all my threads are tagged.

    Should I have done this?

I want to have individual threads indexed not just a link to all the threads with a similar tag.

If you have auto tag mod installed , i would definately not include the the tags to my sitemaps. But you can still keep them out of robots.txt file.

So do you mean that I can still have tags listed in my site map
but just block them using robots.txt file?

No , you should not include them into sitemaps and also you should not block them via robotx.txt

I'm not sure I understand. I have a bunch of tag pages already indexed in Google. Why would I want to decrease all those extra pages I have already indexed?

There was some speculation that an "auto tag" mod could cause some sort of penalization. To my knowledge, this has not be confirmed, but it's certainly worthy of further investigation before installing that type of mod.

There are two problems with auto tag mod.
    1. If you have a busy forum , you can have tons of tags on your forum which can cause load problems as vBulletin tag system is not designed for heavy usage.
    2. Auto tags can create irrevelant tags to pages which can cause a problem.

    Yes this is very true
As long as you can control what words you don't want tagged e.g around, behind, dad, dog, cat, help and the list goes on. I have been able to limit what will be tagged with the auto tag mod.

Although I still have irrelevant tags that I dont really need, that is one of the main reasons why I dont want tags indexed.

The other reason I have the auto tag is because my site is visited by guests and members who want to find a articles about a specific event or crime and this helps a lot as I also have lots of RSS feeds that I could not manually tag.

    With the indexing of tags,

I want my threads which are usually crime articles to be indexed related to the thread title which I think creates more unique indexed thread.

Rather than if someone was searching for "Crime in Australia" I would want to have all my articles/threads related to crime in Australia individually indexed, instead of having one listing titled "threads tagged Australia".
Which when clicked on opens a page on my site with all posts that contain the word "Australia".

I think that having tags indexed or not indexed is only based on what type of site you have and what works best for you.

I have no tags indexed and it works well for me and my site, I think I have more content indexed without them.

I would like to hear what you have done? and if it is good for your site.

So is it good to have tags included in your sitemap or not? Im confused about it. I have them blocked in my robots.txt and my sitemap settings. What to do?
