    Question "Include Member Profile Pages" Yes or No?

    Hi,

    my board still isn't very big. About 10k posts and 1k members. At the moment I've got "Include Member Profile Pages" enabled, but I was wondering, if disabling it would be better. My sitemap contains about 2800 URLs and almost half of them are memberprofiles, I think... That's no good content/pages ratio!?

    I do not include them in my sitemap, but they are not blocked in any manner. my member pages are still heavily indexed, but i don't want to put focus on them as serp's.

    You can use the same basic method outlined in the following link to find out how much traffic they generate:

    If they don't generate any traffic, then why keep them? If they do, that's a different story.

    Thanks. That's quite easy...

    Hm, about 1,5-2% of hits from searchengines seems to be member pages... I'm going to monitor this for some time and decide then...

    And the majority is directly to your show thread pages, right?

    Now consider that you have 1 link per post, on every thread page going out (and taking some link value with it) to member profile pages that only contribute 1-2% of your traffic.

    If the bulk of your traffic is to your thread pages, what would happen if we removed these extra (non-producing) links/pages and let the focus go even more onto those threads, with more link value conserved?

    If it stays at 1-2%, I'll definitly remove them from sitemap AND put them into robots.txt (or deactivate rewriting, because only rewritten pages can be accessed as defined in my robots.txt).

    But I just reactivated Google Analytics some days ago, so I'm not sure, if these results are already representative.

    Keep an eye on them. I would go even further and disable the link completely using a conditional that will not display the link for guest/search engines.

    Could anyone tell me, how to disable the links with conditionals?
    I could only find the right location in postbit_legacy.
    Code:
    <div id="postmenu_$post[postid]">
    	<if condition="$show['profile'] && $show['member']">
    	<a class="bigusername" href="member.php?$session[sessionurl]u=$post[userid]">$post[musername]</a>
    	<script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("postmenu_$post[postid]", true); </script>
    	<else />
    	$post[musername]
    	</if>
    </div>
    But I don't know how to hide the profile links from forumdisplay (beneath threadtitles and in last post column).
