For pingback, any link that you enter within the text any post will automatically pingback to the site.
Well, yes - we would ping Google. However, it would not result in anything because Google does not accept pingbacks. It would just be ignored.

All you do is link to a page at a blog (or other pingback enabled page) and link to it from within your post.
You can't always tell if a page is pingback enabled. Some pages will have the word "pingback" on the page. Some pages will have pingbacks (& trackbacks) enabled but they'll be rel=nofollowed links that you get. Some pages will have pingbacks/trackbacks moderated so you may or may not get them displayed once the site owner reviews them.
Best chance is to link to a post at a blog. Link to the permalink url for the post, not to a home page or a cat page.
