help please - number of url’s indexed in Google has declined

Hi all,

I am using vbseo 3.1.0 and over the past few months the number of url’s indexed in Google has declined from about 55,000 to 30,000 and traffic in the way of hits and pageviews has also declined accordingly.

Google webmaster tools; sitemap diagnostics tells me that it is finding 2225 errors for urls in sitemaps which are mainly 404(not found). This is probably due to the fact that around Christmas time I deleted thousands of old and redundant threads.

I believe that the above errors are causing problems with Google so my question is; does anyone know of a quick way I can remove the errors listed by Google in the Webmaster Tools (Sitemap Diagnostics>Web Crawl)?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hello Perth ,

You should upgrade to vBSEO Sitemap Generator 2.5 , delete all your existing sitemap files and regenerate sitemaps.

You may also consider removing showpost urls from your sitemaps.

remove show post, remove and disable the archive. those are 2 big ones.
