    google sitemaps

    I'm not to sure if I set this up right in the google sitemaps

    This is what I have listed. I just listed the "txt.gz"

    xx.com
    xx.com/sitemap
    xx.com/sitemap.txt.gz

    after reading some post here I just realized I didn't add the txt, But I added it under xx.com/sitemap just this morning.

    Did I do this right or no?
    Thanks for your help

    Sorry i dont quite understand what you have done? Have you submitted xx.com, or, xx.com/sitemap, or, xx.com/sitemap.txt.gz, or, xx.com/sitemap.gz?

    Sorry I'm not to well at explaining things, I guess I didn't have enough coffee.

    I have submitted all three of them

    These two I submitted a month ago maybe;
    xx.com
    xx.com/sitemap

    And this one I submitted this morning;
    xx.com/sitemap.txt.gz

    Also one other question,
    I just check the status of this one, /sitemap.txt.gz
    and it is telling me I have an error because of to many url's.

    Thank you

    The txt one is for Yahoo only. For Google, you only need to submit the index technically, though submitting the individual sitemap files (_1, _2, etc) seems to speed up the process.

    Would I have the same as you? All eight and the index. Where would I find those on my site?

    It depends on how many URLs you have... When you look at the details under the "Show Reports List" link, it will tell/show you how many were created. It defaults to putting 50,000 URLs per file, so if you have less than 50,000, you'll only have 1 file.

    Oh nice, I have 85,273 total url's. So I have 5.

    I do I need to submit the text file as well or no?

    Thanks for your help!

    Isn't the program meant to automatically submit sitemaps to Google?

    It certainly seemed that way.

    Yes it does but it's quicker to submit through Google webmaster thing. Plus they give you all sorts of stats and things about your site that will come in handy.
