Google ping

Hi

Can somebody please answer a quick question for me...

What, exactly, is the Google ping function? I have manually submitted a sitemap to Google. I can login and re-submit this at will. What I can't understand is what the Google ping does. Does that tell Google that my sitemap has been updated?

yes, this is basically to let google know that sitemap has been updated.

Thanks Oleg. Should have tried there first. All credit to you guys - vBSEO and the sitemap tool are great bits of kit. I'm just hoping to start appearing on Google soon...
