Google Mobile Site Maps

I posted this at VB's forum but also thought it might make an insteresting discussion here...

On a lot of google search results there's small phone icon next to it letting the users know it's a mobile complatible site. How do you let google know that your's is. I don't mean the mobile app but the mobile skin?

Could this be something to do with submitting a mobile sitemap. Is this something the sitemap generator will be able to do in the future?

vBulletin doesn't need a mobile sitemap as mobile urls don't differ from original urls.

As above, how do let google know that your VB site is a mobile compatible site?

You don't need to let Google anyting about it as Google only cares your mobile site if it has different url structure.

I've never seen said icon. What is a search example that produces it on a result?

Type in say cracked.com in a mobile browser and google has a green phone icon next to the results

I don't see anything on my droid or regular pc browser....

might just be your phone.

I also don't see anything at all with iPhone 4 , iPad and any mac browser

The only thing i know that will pop up if you have an android device,Like what i have, in your browser. Lets say you type in joeblowenterprise.com, then a short message will pop up letting you know that the site is using either tapatalk or forumrunner and it'll give you an option to either download it from the market or cancel....But it has nothing to do with googles.I never seen that before.

I know certain devs use the google mobile adsense for there apps.
