Question Google Analytics

Hello,

I was reading the "stuff to do first" and it mentions

Add Google Analytics Code to my Forum Pages?"
Should I do this?

I do use the webmasters tools to look at the stats and links. what benefit does it have if I add the code to my site?

Thanks
Ryan

Hello Ryan ,

Google Analytics is a stats program and it gives way more detailed stats then Webmasters Tools. I use it on all my sites and recommend it to everyone.

It was a long time ago that I set up my profile for google webmaster tools
and when I was looking into Google Analytics just now it said that I do have Data that is being tracked and that it is receiving data. and has a "green tick".

I cant remember adding the code and when I have a look at the page source of the URL that is being tracked I cant find the code. I have had a good look and a search for the code but cant find it.

I dont know why this is?

and what templates should I add the code to anyway?

Thanks
Ryan

You can add Analytics code within vBSEO Cp

When I have a look at my Google Analytics Overview, where it says Website Profiles, in the table it says this URL "http://www.crimecasefiles.com/forum/index.php".

I dont think I have added this but if I did, is it the right URL that should be in there?

I did have a look the within vBSEO Cp and it is not active so I will make it active and add the code.

When I do this will it update and change the existing URL if it is wrong?

Should I also make the "Tracking External Link Clicks" active? and if so do I just leave the format for it set as " /outgoing/ " ?

So should I just start again and delete what I have added to Google Analytics and activate it through my vbseo cp and add the code there as well?

If you manually added Analytics code to your templates , then you should remove them and add it via vBSEO Cp.

Ok thanks

I am going to delete what I have in Analytics and start again

I have to provide the URL of the site you would like to track.

should I add http://www.crimecasefiles.com ? or http://www.crimecasefiles.com/forum/ ?

as both of these will open the index(main) page. Should I change it so only reads "www.crimecasefiles.com" will this help with vbseo as well?

Your choice. It would log all the clicks on the outgoing links from your site.
So in analytics, you can see which outbound links are most clicked in your website.

Content -> Top Content -> /outgoing/

Ok thanks Shadab,

but I still dont know what should be in the format section
where it says " /outgoing/ " ?

I did see that you wrote this Content -> Top Content -> /outgoing/

what does this mean, and what should I add there?

Nothing to add there. If your format is set as /outgoing/ in the vBSEO-CP, you can check the outgoing click stats in the analytics via Content -> Top Content (and filtering the results by putting outgoing in the find/filter box (see screenshot in prev. post)
