Failed Pings

I have installed VBSEO and the sitemaps. However I keep getting this message in my daily reports:

Why are the ping failed? What would be the cause?

I have a google webmaster tools account and I have linked it to
sitemap_index.xml.gz


Is that a problem since the software already submits daily sitemaps?
How can I fix this?

perhaps your server doesn't allow outgoing http connections, so ping cannot be completed.
You can manually submit sitemap to Google:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/siteoverview
and Yahoo:
https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites

You were right. I spoke to the tech guys at my hosting company and since I am on a reseller account, that function is disabled. Only available on dedicated servers.

I just received an email from my host company (hostdime.com) and they wrote this:

"After speaking with you on the phone, a colleague of mine advised that an update to VBSEO uses a different method than the "allow_url_fopen" method, which I advised you is not activated in a shared environment. Please contact your software provider to obtain an update. Hope this helps!"

What do they mean? I am running vBSEO 3.2.0

SE ping is a feature of vBSEO Sitemap Generator, not vBSEO.
Sitemap generator uses file($url) function for pings.
