I installed the sitemap and generated the sitemap files. I felt it would help to submit them into google, but it gives me an error that the files dont appear to be in a supported format.

Either should work. If you point it to your root, just make sure the .htaccess in your root has the sitemap rewrite rule included. I prefer the root myself too, in case you ever decide to include other URLs off the root of your site.

I submitted the index file and no errors.

Did this change? I thought for sure that you could submit the individual files.

I prefer submitting all the individual files in my Google Webmaster account. It'll start grabbing them much quicker that way.

Your sitemap is 1.3megs. Google won't accept over 50,000 URLs per file. How many do you have? Mine are only about 400k each.

It said the file was not in a supported format. Just a general response like that.

Yeah, it was 7megs uncompressed. 1.3megs compressed; which is still kinda large it seems. Not sure... Let Oleg take a look at it. Open a support ticket if you don't mind.

maybe something fouled up when the sitemap was generated. I will run the generator again and see what happens. Will submit a ticket if it still an issue.

    Thanks

submitted the individual files again and the took. Must have been some sort of error in the way that the files were generated the first time, or something goofy with google.

    Works now
