    Bringing Yahoo in the loop...

    I'm working/learning about the sitemap generator and I'm unclear whether or not Yahoo is "seeing" what it needs to see.

    1. When I run Show "Reports List," I get "Yes'" all the way down the report for Google. But for Yahoo, it says "No" all the way down. So, how do I get Yahoo in the loop?

    2. I noticed too in the Admin Panel -> VBSEO Sitemap Reports, I see the following bit of information...

    Your Google Sitemap Index URL: http://www.pc101.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz

    Should I be seeing another for Yahoo?

    Thanks.

    Yeah, that I gathered.

    In the Sitemap settings there's a sentence...

    "Yahoo Application ID is required for automatic notification only and can be obtained here"

    And at the end of that sentence is a link which takes you to "Yahoo's Developer Network." You log in and then fill in the blanks. But, one blank asks you for the URL which looks something like this...

    *Web Application URL: 'http://domain.com/path/to/web/app'

    Which brings me back to my original question. How do I get Yahoo clued in and/or what's my url string that Yahoo is looking for? I was wondering if it was the same as this..

    http://www.pc101.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz

    Yes? No?

    Thanks!

    I made the coding change as suggested on the other thread but I think Yahoo still isn't seeing PC101. Here's what I got after the change...

    Summary:
    ============================
    Forum Display: 183
    Show Thread: 3265
    Show Post: 14594
    Member Profiles: 2634
    Poll Results: 56

    Total Indexed URLs: 20778
    Total Processing Time: 15.70 seconds

    Google ping: Successful.
    Yahoo ping: FAILED.

    ============================

    I only saw one place to change the coding. Was there more than one? in the vbseo_sitemap_functions.php file?

    Thanks!

    Please try to manually submit it with:
    Code:
    http://search.yahooapis.com/SiteExplorerService/V1/ping?sitemap=http://yoursitemapurlhere

    I swapped the "yoursite..." with my site's addy, hit enter and got this...

    Code:
      <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    - <Success xmlns="urn:yahoo:api">
      <Message>Update notification has successfully submitted.</Message>
      </Success>
    - <!--  ws02.search.re2.yahoo.com compressed/chunked Sun Sep 30 10:49:20 PDT 2007
      -->
    Is that what we were looking for? It says "success" but I just want to be sure.

    Thanks!

    Yes, it should be ok then. Check your sitemap downloads log to make sure that yahoo downloads your sitemap from time to time.

    Hmm... doesn't appear to work still...

    Am I to look somewhere else? I peeped the download log and all I see under bot is Google bot, blank/no entry and then there's one entry that reads...

    22:13 sitemap_index.xml.gz Yahoo 74.6.20.79 Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Yahoo! Slurp; Yahoo!'s Web Crawler)

    And, that's it.
