I wouldn't include Showpost pages in your sitemap, and I would also disable rewrites for Showpost and add an exclude for showpost.php in your ROBOTS.TXT.
If you do this, make sure you delete all your current sitemap files before regenerating, since you will have far less created this time and you don't want the old ones sitting out there.
Where do I change this setting easiest? (I use vBulletin 3.0.3)
In vBSEO CP, you can select to replace showpost links with permalink.
robots.txt has to be edited manually.
In your sitemap settings to can choose to not include showpost links.
In general, if you have a lot of content, that is great. However, you can help boost efficiency by getting rid of unnecessary or non-vital stuff like the showpost links example.
If you are including old vBulletin formatted URLs in your sitemap, you can also get rid of those.
Yes - that is the correct option.
My personal preference is to keep them disabled forever.
