In case if you add non-forum URLs in vBSEO sitemap, you should move sitemap to the domain root as described in Sitemap:FAQ - VBSEO Wiki and submit it to domain.com website entry.

You don't want to include the extra-urls.txt as a "sitemap". It will be included as a part of your vBSEO Sitemap.

Do i leave this the way it is in the .htaccess file that's inside the forum folder?

    Code:

    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap_).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]

Yes. You shouldn't need to modify the one inside the forum folder. Those lines won't really be used once you start submitting from your site root anyway.

    Hi,

I tried to move sitemap to the domain root and I did everything you say here, but I'm getting this error in Google Webmaster Tools...
    http://www. domain.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz
Example: sitemap.xml General HTTP error: 404 not found
We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.
I've also added this in domain root .htaccess
    Code:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap_).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ forum/vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
    Am I missing something?

Do you have any other rewrite rules in domain root .htaccess?

Yes... This is all of it:
    Code:
    Options All -Indexes
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    RewriteEngine On

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.domain\.com
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.domain.com/$1 [L,R=301]

    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap_).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ forum/vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]

You should move sitemap directives to the top.

I claimed both www.mysite.com and www.mysite.com/forum, the first has the joomla sitemap while the latter has the vbseo sitemap.

    It works like a charm.

You can submit index sitemap alone (it won't hurt if you submit both though).
