started using link exchanges and links in dropped

This is strange. I started using a few different link exchange programs. Before I started, google showed I had 206 links in.

    About a week later, it's 106.

MSN shows I have about 1400 links in. This is a stat that was before i started the programs, it hasn't changed.

How is it working for others?

Whether Google or MSN reports inbound links is immaterial to the value that links provide. It does take a while for Google/MSN/Yahoo to cache pages that may have a link on them, especially if it is a pages that does not have much PR on it, or an inner page. Then Google certainly does not report all inbound links.

However, the links certainly do provide value.

    Some questions:
    • How good is your onpage optimization for that phrase?
    • Google for the best page on your site for that phrase, what page comes up?
      ie site:www.domain.com searchphrase
    • How many text links do you have inside your own site to that page, with that search phrase in it?

    i was just using:

    link:mysite.com

it's odd. google went back up to 205. msn and yahoo went up by about 400. all since i posted this.

i wish there was a way to lookup sites linking to yours that excludes links from within your own site.
