In my opinion, it's a waste of time.

If you have good content, you'll get linked back to automatically by users.

Focus on your content. Let the users link for you. don't give someone else content.

I am new here and to SEO. My question is regarding the comments made by briansol. How do you get users to find your site if you are not ranked or unknown, particularly a new website like mine (it almost sounds like a "catch 22")? I am very good at what I do and fully believe people looking for what I have will come back to my site when they see it, I just need them to know I am here so they will visit once. Thanks for the help...

I guess that is not a back link since your url is not hyperlink to that particular website

Well, I have a tips for Link Building that I am following which I want to share between you. They are

    1) Link to authority sites in your industry as well as other sites that looks like a quality upcoming sites, and stay clear of suspect sites.

    2) Google says that it is impossible for a site to hurt your site by simply linking to your sites, but you can hurt your site if you link to another site with a shady backlink profile.

    3) See who links to your competitors and try and get a link as well

    4) Try and get a link from a .gov sites.

Link within a blog comment doesn't need to be in HTML format. You can create link by putting your link in WEBSITE / URL field. The anchor text will be what you'll put in NAME field.
