Are paid link directories worth the money?

    I'm listed on :
    DMOZ
    Uncover the Net
    Site-Sift

Yahoo doesn't even respond in about 2 years and 299/y for review is just crazy.

I'm thinking about a payed listing on BOTW (http://botw.org/) but it's not cheap either (149$ for a perm. link or 49/y) , I'm not sure if that would be worth the money, but the site looks really good to me.

What's your opinion on paying $$$ for a link?

I think it may be a good way for new websites with low PR and before you have got many inbound links to get starting, unless you already have other established websites to link from.

If you already are PR5 or PR6 these listings will not change your current PR or SERPs much, and may not be worth the money.

I'd be worried about Google thinking you're part of a "spam neighborhood". I prefer to choose my link partners. Simply requesting a link exchange from a couple hundred websites will result in, at the very least, a dozen high-quality responses. A lot of people are friendly and don't mind sending some PR to a good, new site. If it's a bad new site you'll have a lot more trouble.

i wouldn't spend 300$ on a yahoo listing, but there are many directories out there.
one like the one I own Link2Share link Directory a featured listing is less the 10$ and what I'd really suggest doing is this
spend 60$ here, and u get submitting to over 300 directories
submit helper, manually directory submission service

i think this is the one I'm thinking of, if not this is a good deal too

I think directories can certainly help, but I wouldn't simply submit to one or two and expect them to be a panacea for a SEO campaign.

Check out Bob Mutch's list of quality directories here:
Top Web Directories - Rated by Inbound Link Quality - ILQ - New Site

and submit to the ones that offer most value.

Every link counts..... even PR zero's - make sure you get your target a-text and don't worry about PR...

If you have the time go for it.... there are lists of DIR's out there.

I invested in a link on MSN's directory, it was meant to help my rankings on MSN, but so far nothing has come of it, and it cost $70 a year.

So as far as I can see, it's not worth it. Stick to dmoz, you get good results after getting listed in that.

I invest on directories quite much and it has given me great results. Directories such as Alive Web Directory - Internet Site Resources are worth it.

Hi, why do your first two sites in your signature redirect me to http://www.elsevier.nl ?

One question i have is does a pr8 directory even do you any good when your listing is burried on a 0 pr page? I submitted to Uncover the Net - Search Powered by Humans Not Machines and my listing is Webmaster Forums Information at Uncover the Net which is pr 0. So I am wondering if it was even worth it or will those pages eventully go up in pr?

I think they added that category recently so this URL will have a visible pr of 0 untill it is crawled and ranked by Google and the visible pr on the toolbar is calculated.

That's one theory I guess. But when you have a front page that never really updates do you get crawled all that much?
