link baiting

I have recently read about link baiting and i was wondering if anyone could give me any original ideas on what i could do with my site to set the hook...

I am looking for ideas that either have never been done before, or maybe a current food issue that leaves people a little 'sore' lol

Im not so familiar with link baiting. All i know about link bating is that link bait is content on your site to which other sites link naturally because they want to, not because you ask them to. It creates more links to your site, which really do help you in the web promotion. you don't have to get on your knees and beg for the links because you will get many links naturally.

yes, but the concept of baiting means exactly what a fisherman does to fish, there is a sharp hook hidden inside a yummy worm.

when it comes to websites, you'd want to write a polemic, perhaps pollitically incorrect article. You'll get backlinks for sure, but they will be in the shape of "look at this moron, how can he say something like that...". You'll bait people to link to your site by being somewhat rude on a given subject. Not a good thing. You won't get loyal visitors by provoking them and starting a flame war on other sites.

from what i have read up on, there are many forms of link baiting, you have just described the most dangerous of them

some of them include

write something controversial 'against' what someone else has said and offer prof to back it up
make a website 'tool' something people will find useful
write about something no-one has touched upon yet
and my personal favourite, write something funny

my problem is that i have 'writers block' and i have no idea where on the areas that my site covers to start since food and cooking is getting so much press lately

I believe that developing a tool is wonderful and viral, but that's no baiting, that's earning an honest backlink. Same for authority posts, that's a constructive but-less-agressive way to get noted.

I don't know, I think it is link baiting, its still a means to get people to link to your site and it may just lead to extra sign-ups, so you could say that the tool is the 'hook', what do you mean by 'authority posts' ?

Let's see. I own a site on tech news. I keep finding interesting daily news for which I write brief flashing news (100 words or less) with attribution to the source. It's no copy paste because I rewrite it in spanish and in simple words for non tech savvy readers, but it's no original content either because I have a source and the only real added value besides rewriting it is my criteria on finding what's hot and relevant each day.

For example I wrote a brief note on Hector Ruiz departure from AMD. No one linked it because it was widespread and most tech news sites linked to the primary sources like Yahoo Finance.

On the other hand, we wrote a long article on our opinions about the subject: "Why is Hector Ruiz Leaving and what can we expect" (1000 words, no direct atribution for it consist on our own opinions and forecastings). A lot more people linked it because it had added value that couldn't be found in other places.

The second one would be an authority post, see?

There are other ways too, like getting an exclusive interview with one developer or CEO, or leaking information on unreleased products, but that info is hard to get and will hurt the relationship with the industry.
