Ok, so I'm finally aware that I need to redirect either www or non-www to one page. I am aware that www is technically depricated. I have always used www as the default for all linking on my site and most of my backlinks also use www in the URL. I would prefer to switch to the non-www url because it is simpler but there seems to be a debate if this is a good move even with a 301 redirect since it is still habit to use www when people post links.
If I redirect my site to the non-www url will this cause an adverse affect on page rank because most of the backlinks still use www or will these simply be noted by the search engine and recounted towards the non-www url?
A great deal of people and other SEO websites seem to believe changing to non-www urls will have a negative impact even with a redirect because it is still habit to www.
