Why use social bookmarking?

Every time you add a bookmark to one of your pages in one of these sites you create a backlink. If you bookmark every piece of content you create in all of these sites you can build a lot backlinks over time. For best results, you want to make sure that the bookmarking sites provide a real, do-follow link. There is much debate as to whether or not no-follow links are still useful so I won’t get into that here. However one thing you do want is a real link. Several sites don’t provide real backlinks – they use their own form of dynamic link which does not count as a backlink.
One other thing to be aware of is that even though these are your personal bookmarks, you need to ensure that they are public – that way other people (Google really) can find them. But be careful, some bookmarking sites such as Connotea have a specific niche and probably wont appreciate your toenail clipping bookmarks.

I agree that bookmarking helps to increase the back links but they are not 100% reliable as if you tend to overdue then the account can be banned hence they cannot be trusted upon completely.

social bookmarking is the important part in seo process which count back-links and generate the traffic for the site.

You can use Social Bookmarking -

# If your blog is new and you want to get index fast.
# If you have tonnes of pages than small packages such as top 20 or top 40 will be great.
# If you have less competitive keywords than social bookmarking can improve your SERP as well.

It would be nice if vBSEO was able to be like OnlyWire, whereas everytime a new forum thread was created, it would be not only pinged, but also auto-social bookmarked. Something to think about in your next vBSEO release...

You can add any service you wish to Ping and any site you want a social book mark for already. I've never even heard of only wire so, you can go there and find it's xml rpc url for pinging, and its share format, and place it into the CP areas.
