In google webmaster it was asking for Sitemap.Do i need to create one for my forum??

Sitemap generator automatically builds and submit your site map to 4 search engines, follow the docs on vb.org it's not that hard to install, and yes you can add the sitemap to google master tools but you do not need ot create one, you will submit the one wich is automatically generated by sitemap gen so install sitemap plugin 1st, and then you would care to submit the sitemap directly to th esearch engine tools but thats not really needed. Most spiders recognize now in robots.txt the string:

    Code:
    Sitemap:http://website.com/sitemap.xml.gz
This is how you could submit to MSN live for example, they are reading your robots.txt to dl the map file. But sitemap gen is must have because this saves lots of time building map files with around 20 000links which is not doable everyday manually. if you wanna check a sample about what type of sitemap file is generated look mine here(could take up to 1min or more to load due to the number of links):

    Code:
    http://heapoverflow.com/sitemap_1.xml.gz
Then I just added sitemap_1.xml.gz to google master tools, yahoo webmaster central and robots.txt is enough.

the vbseo yahoo/google sitemap is in the downloads section here.
It's easy to install, just upload, chmod a folder and import the product and then check the settings in vboptions.. Takes all of 5 mins and that's just to upload via ftp..

    cheers

Links to your site from other, context-relevant sites. The more the merrier.

How long ago was it installed? Positive results from running vbSEO are at the mercy of the search engines, so improvements are rarely immediate. When I installed vbSEO on a site that had been around for 6 years, it took many months for all of my urls to be reindexed. So many people come here expecting immediate results, and that's just not realistic.

Robots.txt will help to keep the spiders from wasting time in areas that don't matter, which can help to speed up the indexing process. Search around here, there are some good robots.txt files posted. Robots.txt should go in your web root.

While we do have some reports of near immediate results, you're right - With SEO patience and consistency is key. Most of our major success stories took at least two months to start seeing *big leagues results*. However, when it occurred it took them to a whole new level, when there previous growth was either stalled or slower during the preceding years.

vBSEO works, but you definitely need to think of *all* SEO efforts as a long term commitment. Once vBSEO is installed for you, focus on continuing to build your community with general marketing, building great content, and (where possible) get new linkbacks from relevant 3rd party sites.

I agree. This helps improve indexing efficiency significantly.
