    I obviously need to read this and find out what Web 2.0 is. I keep hearing it, but have no clue as to what it means.

    Nevermind, that is just a list of sites. Somebody clue me in here, or point me toward a learning direction.

    I think it's an overrated buzzword to be honest.

    A designer friend put it much nicer terms - web 2.0 being all about improving the user experience.

    I'd forget about the buzzwords and focus on that aim

    Well, I prefer the word "water" instead of "something you can drink and something the world consits to 71% of"

    Here's how O'Reilly defines it by example:

    In our initial brainstorming, we formulated our sense of Web 2.0 by example:
    <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="500"><tbody><tr> <th scope="col" align="right" width="200">Web 1.0</th> <th scope="col" align="center" width="59"> </th> <th scope="col" align="left" width="241">Web 2.0</th> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">DoubleClick</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>Google AdSense </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">Ofoto</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>Flickr</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">Akamai</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>BitTorrent</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">mp3.com</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>Napster</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">Britannica Online</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>Wikipedia</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">personal websites</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>blogging</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">evite</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>upcoming.org and EVDB</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">domain name speculation</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>search engine optimization</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">page views</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>cost per click</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">screen scraping</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>web services</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">publishing</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>participation</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">content management systems</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>wikis</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">directories (taxonomy)</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>tagging ("folksonomy")</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">stickiness</td> <td align="center">--></td> <td>syndication</td></tr></tbody></table>

    * Gradient backgrounds
    * Large colorful icons, often with reflections and drop shadows
    * Large text (especially in comparison with the emphasis on very small text in earlier designs)
    * Diagonal hatch background
    * Glossy three-dimensional elements
    * Apparently random highlights and call-outs in text
    Looks almost like the description of an Apple computer OS Well IMO the web is always evolving, this is just a buzzword to describe some changes/ideas over the past few years to enhance user experience and usability. It's funny to see some sites changing their designs to meet these "requirements", for example SitePoint : New Articles, Fresh Thinking for Web Developers and Designers suddenly using gradients, drop shadow, larger text etc.
