VPS Host Problem - QOS Alert - MediaTemple

I have the base package at MediaTemple.net, which was an upgrade over the shared hosting package at monsterhost. I upgraded due to CPU usage error's once a week or so which would put me into a 5 minute timeout from monsterhost. Also, with Monsterhost, I received up to 55 visitors and 4 members at a time, and the server wold mostly do ok with the occasional CPU usage error.

Now that I've upgraded to Mediatemple, I keep receiving QOS Alerts. I have yet to have over 40 visitors since I upgraded to the MT host. See below:

    Code:
    Jan 10, 2009 08:25:07 AMGreen zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:25:06 AMYellow zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:22:57 AMGreen zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:22:47 AMYellow zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:21:27 AMGreen zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:21:17 AMYellow zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:19:47 AMGreen zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:19:27 AMYellow zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:19:06 AMGreen zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:18:57 AMYellow zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:12:07 AMGreen zone kmemsizeJan 10, 2009 08:12:06 AMYellow zone kmemsizeJan 09, 2009 09:39:47 AMGreen zone kmemsizeJan 09, 2009 09:39:37 AMYellow zone kmemsize
These errors are attributed to kmemsize:

    Code:
The size of unswappable kernel memory allocated for the internal kernel structures for the processes of a particular VPS.
Note: For the Virtuozzo 64-bit version for IA-64 processors, it takes 4 (four) times more the size of the kernel memory than that for the Virtuozzo 32-bit version to handle one and the same process.
Question 1: I have over 100 different sections/subsections, do all of these section contribute to multiple connections which would increase CPU usage?

Question 2: If I upgrade to more ram, would I still have the same problem of too many connections?

Question 3: Server loads are no longer displayed, and I've been told that I need to disable open_basedir in my php.ini file. How do I do that?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jay

It isn't necessarily more ram as the whole server could be faulty. Its all about the equipment that your server is on. Did you consult Brian's guide to choosing a host? He has some pretty good ones mentioned.

Thanks for the answer, and yes, I debated with moving to his recommended VPS, but changed my mind after receiving a recommendation for MediaTemple.

I'd really like some feedback on this. What is the correlation between Ram and connections to DB - Apache? Does more ram mean, more connections?
