Quite honestly I'm not sure where the line is drawn but I tend to give my users a better experience (guests&members) more so than I worry about my SEO rankings per page.
Do others tend to go this route or am I an outkast?

I believe I have mine at a good balance
You should think about the users first and SEO second (in theory) because once the users get to your website from a search engine they need to be able to use it. If it's just a page with h1 tags with heaps of keywords and spammy techniques and not really usable, then no one will come back.
There's zero reason why it can't be perfect for both. It;s all in the design skill![]()
