URLs indexed falling slowly and not founds rising

Hi All,

I have the sitemaps working quite well but have a substantial number of errors found in sitemaps around a 1000 in sitemap and 6000 not founds:

The situation is in the sitemap there are some 6000 urls not found (404's) but when I go to the crawl error page and follow the link it is fine and opens the page no problems. The urls are of the form .../announcements/1145-this-is-the-thread-title-post1179.html.

Is this expected behaviour from Google?

Did you renamed any of your forums as i can't see an forum named announcements on your site .

That URL was representative - here is an actual url that has been 404'd but seems OK

Here is an example of a 'real' 404: http://www.bizface.co.uk/bizfaceforu...ent.Doc?id=495

the vast majority (or at least the ones I have looked at) are OK when the link is followed from within webmasters.

If you're seeing 404's that WORK and shouldn't be showing as 404s, you're likely having hosting problems or server issues when google visited your site last.

If they are ok, they will eventually fall out of google's 404 index.
