    • Danny Sullivan Talks about Twitter Spam
    • Real time search = real time spam
    • Twitter "trend spam"
    • Keywords for trends are designated with hashtags preceding them (#) such as #seo
    • When there is a high volume of them, it becomes a "trending topic" and may show up on the Twitter Search homepage, and on user homepages
    • Spammers hash tagging their tweets with trending topics to take advantage of the traffic.
    • Re-tweeting authoritive tweets by others, and adding their own links (could be to malware sites)
    • Twitter Search is Broken
    • Recommends stopping "Trends" feature until is upgraded with spam protection.
    • Recommends some spam prevention strategies.

trend spam is so annoying, but it's not as bad as it could be
and twitter search works fine for me?
    vbulletin - Twitter Search
I don't see trends being stopped, just tell twitter about the @spam and they'll remove the accounts

not much more we can do

I think there are certainly more automated methods that can be developed. One of the topics at the Web 2.0 conference was methods for establishing "reputation" values for Twitter accounts, and then using that to make decisions.

Juan having just come from a Twitter conference probably has a lot more insights into what they plan to do to combat spam.

I am always searching for #adsense to find relevant followers. 90% of the tweets are hashtag spam.

I wish there was a quick button to report spam on tweeter. Yes there are some huge spammers using tweeter.

If that's the case, all the Twitter clients like TweetDeck, etc, should add an instant button for that to make it super easy and to make users aware of the capability.

Of course, that will create anti-competitive spam reports.

Maybe we need to start "Digging" or "Buzzing Up" tweets.

Really? @spam works? I'll be using that hehe.

Yea, or a RT-counter which would allow seeing quality of the tweets :-).
