transfer incoming links to new site?

This sounds unlikely to work but thought I would put it out there.

I have a wordpress blog site which has 500+ incoming links from some old news stories across a number of major gaming sites. Most of these come into 3 articles/pages on the site. If I posted these on my forum site (same subject) then redirected the url's, would I pick up all the linkbacks/pagerank in googles eyes or is it pointless exercise?

If these 3 articles are major traffic generations, I think I would leave them on the blog. Are you trying to close the blog down?

You can redirect them with a 301 and redirect the link value. However, if you are keeping the blog in place, it's probably best to keep the articles there as well.

Yes, I don't update the blog anymore so looking to divert it to my newer forum site. My plan was to use it's rss feed to post all the articles into a locked forum as an archive of the old sites posts. Then redirect each article to the relevent forum thread.

I assumed this would be the best way in order to divert the traffic correctly and keep the benefit of all it's incoming links. Presumably there wouldn't be any penalty from google by doing this?
