    Too much H2-Tags?

    Hi there,
i´ve got a question about the h2-tags inside vbulletin. Aren´t there too much of these h2´s? They´re used for Categories AND Forumtitles. Wouldn´t it be better to use h2 for Categories and h3 for the forums? Would´t this has a better effect for search engines? Just a question and sorry for my bad english,
    greetings,
    Peter

Heading tags should be logical section headings. vB didn't use them ideal, but it will require a lot of work to fix that.

Basically, you shouldn't have an h3 without an h2 above it and an h1 above that.
just arbritrarily using heading tags is incorrect. It's a HEADING of a logical SECTION or sub-section.

The codes brings some semantic understanding for search engines. The h1 gives more importance than h2 and h2 is more important than h3 also bold or strong type words are more important than standart writings. It's also important it's place on the page. The beginnig words more important. You can use at relevant replace ment h1 title and keep the rest h2 which makes more sense. Also strong and italics maybe used. I use at my big webmaster forum this technique. If you make whole page text as h1 or h2 it's big mistake. you are very right on this. You need to use these codes where is really necessary.

Thank you for your replies. I tested my site and there are:
    1 x h1
    46 (!) x h2
    0 x h3
    104 x h4
    That´s only on forumhome...

Looks, like there´s some space to work...

    Greetings,
    Peter

    With 0 h3's, technically, the h4 isn't a valid element.

Peter, i think i should check you forumhome. If i see your forum i can better advice. Basically, you should not afraid exteremely big pages. It's ok to have 1 mb content on a page. As long as it's fast and attractive content. I check with for example bing search engine, i interestingly noticed bing likes big content filled pages. Google likes fresher and fast pages.

Mainly for SEO purpose h1, h2, and h3 tags are used. h1 tag is used for main heading which should be atleast one and must contain keywords to optimize. h2 tag is used for sub headings. But too much Heading tags should be avoided on a webpage...

Too much is good for nothing. you can use 2 to 3 h2 tags. Don't use more than that.

There is NO set limit. They should represent LOGICAL sections as in outline format. 0, 1, or 500 depending on the page length and content.
