Thinking of merging to IPB and New Domain

    Hi Guys,

I am thinking of merging my vB4 + vBseo site into an existing IPB site I have.

The vB site gets 50-70k uniques per month and has around 60,000 pages in googles index.

So I am considering merging this site into my IPB site which runs on an entirely different domain. It only gets around 10k uniques per month.

Is this a crazy idea? Will I ever recover from the software/domain change? How much damage can I expect?

For obvious reasons, we would never suggest doing this.

    I guessed as much.

So chances of recovery are low?

Unfortunatly vBulletin as a product is becoming more of a farce every day.

If only you guys did SEO for IPB....

    I wouldn't count it out.

Backup your site as it is and save that. Do it and use htaccess well for any important threads, forums, groups, whatever.

    Leave the rest to Google.

If you're using a new domain, perhaps tell google that via Webmasters Tools.

I'm thinking of porting all my forums over to IPB so have been looking into this.

It's as safe as installing VBSEO on a site that doesn't currently have VBSEO. Google quickly learns what's going on.

Sorry VBSEO. It's not you. It's VB. They're just poor in many ways now, obviously except financially. At least for now.

I would import everything into the new site, check it is all working okay and when it is, then set the redirects and change of address in webmaster tools. You should be okay in the long run.
