    split forum home page hack

There is this hack at vb Split ForumHome Page into Multiple Pages - Page 7 - vBulletin.org Forum

Its called Split ForumHome Page into Multiple Pages

What it does is to allow you to take some forums off your Forum Home page and display them on a second instance of the forumhome page.

Check out the hack and then come back here.

    I'm about to install it.

What I wanted some of the intelligent people here to comment on was:

    1. How will this affect my SEO
    2. Who agrees that this hack is really great? It appears as it will make all of my site a whole lot more organised, by Splitting up the forum into parts.

some people consider buying new vbulletin forums to do this, I feel this hack takes care of that option.

    3. It creates pages like /index.php?page=2

How will vbseo rewrite this url?

I wanted this /index.php?page=2 to be more like /whatEverIchoose.html

Anyone may want to look at my post vBulletin.org Forum - View Single Post - Split ForumHome Page into Multiple Pages and If you feel you are a coder that could do any of those things for me, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks

Personally, I think this hack is useless. That's what subforums are for.
If you have more than 100 forums, you're probably doing something wrong....

Yeah, my site is a huge entertainment, gaming, computer, and general chat forums. So there are about 200 forums in total.

I've been using subforums, and I still feel the forum homepage is to crowded, im working out a way to make this look more user friendly so they don't get overwhelmed by all the forums.

I myself have installed this add-on and I wouldn’t call it useless at all, I am using it to keep the community better organized as such:

http://the-week.net/forum/index2 - World News Digest – an area dedicated solely to World events that are not Paranormal in nature.

http://the-week.net/forum/index3 - Joke Digest - an area for jokes

http://the-week.net/forum/index4 - Unexplained Mysteries Archived Section – this area holds older discussions from our previous community.

It may be useless to some and to others it could be a much welcomed inclusion.

It *could* be usefull, but to be honest, I don't see why one can't get every topic on 1 index.

You can, but when you have a big site, which has just so many different topics, rangings from gaming, to information technology, to general chit chat etc, and there are so many different games out there, that many need there own section. your forums become messy and un organised.

I've now change mine to Gamerz Needs - For All Your Gaming Needs! and if you scroll down the general gaming section has now been removed, and all the other sections are for now subforumed. Then the general gaming section is linked to here Gamerz Needs - For All Your Gaming Needs!

@Bain: How did you change the index?page=2 to index2? And would you be able to change that then to something else or is it good to use the word index?

Also, your forums are turned off currently, but I was just interested how you added your links so the user knew how to find there way to the other pages on the site.

I used the CRR supplied to me from my request thread: Need CRR for Multiple page plugin

I'm still working on the forum; it should be opening up on the 7th of June (two more days!) I've yet to implement a paging system that would easily allow the members to choose which index page they would like to jump to. However, with that said I am currently looking at a side menu over at Vbulletin.org as a possibility to achieve this without a lot of manual hard coding on my end.

Take a look at my page 2 Gamerz Needs - For All Your Gaming Needs! This is how I have done it for now, but I'm thinking of getting my gfx team to work on a nice looking menu, and implement it in the forumhome.

I was wondering how the CRR thing worked, I'll check out that page now.

    Thanks

For now this is what I am using: Side Menu - vBulletin.org Forum

(which by the way is originally from: Dynamic Drive DHTML Scripts- Dynamic-FX Slide-In Menu )

vBulletin.org Forum - View Single Post - Side Menu lol I forgot I downloaded this and was going to use this back in Feburary.

Instead of being on the side, I think I prefer this hack Menu Control - vBulletin.org Forum

He is releasing version 2 in hopefully 2 weeks if all goes well.

The new version will be awesome, so I think ill wait for that. worth checking out.
