Re: Site map/archive link in header, does it help? It wouldn't really make any difference one way or the other, honestly.

Re: Site map/archive link in header, does it help? Ok, the reason I thought it could, is because SE like google look more in the top of websites for links, keywords and content, and less down the page. Well, that is what I read on SEOchat.com anyway. But if it doesn't hurt, it may well be worth a try

Re: Site map/archive link in header, does it help? Seochat is a good place for resources (I post there from time to time) but some of info that gets posted there is wrong at times (even the mod Pheonix agrees with me on that one). In this case, the link to the archive solely exists so that the engines can find it and use it as a map to find all the threads and maybe pass on some PR (don't get me started on PR though as I find PR is nearly meaningless these days unless you use the co-op or linkvault). My site gets more traffic from google now with a PR of 3 then when it had a PR of 6. There has always been some speculation that where text is placed on a web page causes it to be viewed differently by the search engines. I know MSN has already stated they take that into consideration. I just think for the most part, it's a little hard to make that an extremely large part of a ranking factor/algo because when you throw in stuff like CSS, it's not to clear cut and dry. In short, as far as the archive goes, i'd not worry too much about it at this point. As long as the engines find it as is (and they will), that's all that really matters.
