site.com to point to new portal page.. site.com/forum.php to point to old index.php

Hi

Sorry for long thread title!

OK.. I am about to launch a new portal on the site.

Currently if you go to www.mysite.com you get the forumhome index.php page.

I want to change that you get the portal page (portal.php)...

and then in order to get the forum index.php page, I would like to have to go to www.mysite.com/forum.php

1) What impact will this have on my SEO?

2) Any pointers as to the best / easiest / safest way to do this?

3) Any better ideas?

--

Recently changed domains from .co.uk to .com and haven't reestablished PR on .com/ (although have done on lower down pages strangely) so I'm not bothered about screwing that up currently.

The reason I want to do the above is so that all the people who have bookmarked the forum home page will see the portal. This means taking into account .com/index.php as well as .com/

thanks in advance.

why don't you want to use an index.php file ?

I could understand if you wanted the portal.php file to really be the index, but this I'm lost

Hi

Thanks for the reply..

I'm happy to do this any way.

If its easy to just change my portal.php file to index.php.. and then change the current index.php file to forum.php, then that's fine..

I'm just not sure how work there is in making sure that the rest of the forum references forum.php instead of index.php

thanks agian. Any help appreciated.

if you are using vbadvanced you can basically do this/

then there is a setting in acp>vba> for the path, just set it to /index.php
